California's Great America Update - April 11th, 2020
Social Distancing Edition
So it's been quite a few weeks. I ended my last update by mentioning that I'd be back to check out Sidewinder Safari construction. Well not only have I not been back to the park since then, but the park has only been open a couple of days since then. And that doesn't even touch on the fact that Sidewinder Safari itself might be in trouble. But luckily I live close to CGA and wanted to get some fresh air so I decided to take my camera and walk over to the San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail and see what I can see. So I hope you enjoy this brief CGA update! We'll be back into the park itself in no time 😊

South Bay Shores Updates
First thing you see walking past the employee parking lot is this piece of a slide, looks like construction didn't completely finish before the closure!
Which to be fair, makes sense since in mid-March when the county shut down, we were still two and change months since the opening of SBS, plenty of time to finish a slide. Especially since this looks to be part of the new Tide Pool kid's area
On one hand it's sad to see these leftover Boomerang Bay signs waiting for the trash but on the other hand, SBS should be much better looking.
The new signage for the changing rooms look fantastic!
The new Pacific Surge tower looms over the rest of the water park
The way the light hits the lime slide is great!
The colors on the new towers are so vivid
And I'm really looking forward to getting into Rushin River this summer
Here you can see some of the themeing on the Reef Racer tower.
I think the pier themed signs are a really nice touch!
And here's the Reef Racer and Coastal Cruz/Norcal Wipeout/Mission Falls towers
The alternating colors on the Reef Racer slides look great!
Let's take a peek at the Tide Pool kid's area
Here's just a pair of the handful of more kid sized slides
And here's the Reef Racer and Coastal Cruz/Norcal Wipeout/Mission Falls towers
The drop pod slides never fail to get my heart pumping!
South Bay Shores looks fantastic and much more modern than the old Boomerang Bay! I for one can't wait for it to open this summer so I can try these new slides out!
General Updates
I never knew where employees parked but now I do!
So let's lead with the biggest update that I can see: Woodstock Express is no longer yellow, it's brown!
Now let's take a peek at some of the interesting things currently being stored in the employee parking lot
First it's machines that should be being used to set up the park :(
Gingerbread Houses from Winterfest
A couple of the pumpkins from Haunt
I spy the Tooth Fairy bus!
I'm not entirely sure what these vehicles are, maybe ones from Berserker?
I've never seen this logo before but it's kinda cool that CGA's coaster shop has its own logo!
The boats from Whitewater Falls look like they're in the middle of refurb
I've never seen this greenhouse area before!
Park Pictures
Let's finish this update with a couple of pictures of the park and the trail area itself!
Yeah I'm not too concerned about these dates
Levi's Stadium looms over the trail
I miss our local B&M invert, especially the finale
I can't wait to get back on Railblazer!
So yeah, there you have it! It was really nice to get close to the parks again even if we still have a month or two minimum for the parks to reopen. But it'll happen faster than we know it for sure! I'll probably make my way back around when the stay at home orders are lifted and work in the park presumably resumes again!
